LIBRARY CIRCULATION POLICIES, HOW DO I GET A LIBRARY CARD?

The North Plains Public Library will issue either one card per family or one for each member of a family residing at the same street address. To receive a card, the applicant must provide the following information:

Adults 18 and over: A completed North Plains Public Library Card Application
- One piece of identification, such as an Oregon driver’s license or voter’s registration card which verifies the current street address of residence

Youth through age 17: A completed North Plains Public Library Card Application
- One piece of identification, such as an Oregon driver’s license or a student body card which verifies the current street address of residence, or one piece of the parent’s identification, such as an Oregon driver’s license or voter’s registration card which verifies the current street address of residence

If the card is unused in five years, it will expire. In addition, identification will be verified and patron records updated annually. Patron’s signature on the library card indicates agreement to comply with the current circulation policies and the current loan periods and limits. At the time of annual patron address update, all balances must be paid in full. It is the cardholder’s responsibility to notify the library if the mailing address is changed. A WCCLS library card may be used in place of a NPL card.

OUT OF COUNTY USERS

For residents of all other counties outside of Washington County, the cost for a library card is $65.00 per year per household. (This is the average cost paid in taxes by a Washington County household for library service).

LOAN PERIODS AND LIMITS

Most library materials, including books, periodicals, books on tape and books on CD check out for a period of three weeks. Entertainment and non-fiction video cassettes check out for one week.

RENEWALS

Most materials can be renewed twice, if no one else has reserved them.

FINES and OVERDUE NOTICES

The North Plains Public Library will bill items overdue by more than 30 days.

REQUESTS / RESERVES

Materials may be reserved at no cost on most circulating titles.

PICKING UP ITEMS ON HOLD

The library protects the privacy of its card holders. If a family member is picking up an item which is on hold for another family member, they must have the library card or library card number of the family member who has the item on hold.

LOST CARDS

In accepting this card, the cardholder assumes responsibility for any item that anyone checks out on this card and for payment of any charges thus incurred in accordance with check-out policies of the North Plains Public Library. Loss, theft, or possible unauthorized use of the card must be reported to the library immediately. ALL ITEMS CHECKED OUT PRIOR TO NOTIFYING THE LIBRARY OF LOSS, THEFT, OR POSSIBLE UNAUTHORIZED USE OF THE CARD ARE THE CARDHOLDER’S RESPONSIBILITY.
